Map my dad used on the Appalachian Trail in 1985 vs. the GPS on my phone

I was cleaning out his old gear and found a hand-drawn map with distances scratched in pencil, took me a second to realize that thing got him through 2,000 miles. Where do you even find paper maps like that anymore?

Read those things can still be more reliable than GPS sometimes.

I dunno, a paper map never runs out of battery or loses signal.
