Got completely turned around on the Lost Coast Trail last fall
We were aiming for the Punta Gorda lighthouse section and a thick fog rolled in off the ocean. My buddy Mike and I ended up hiking almost two extra miles along a creek bed before we realized our map was upside down. Has anyone else had a major navigation fail in that area?

Ugh... always double-check your compass in that fog.

Actually, a compass can get thrown off in heavy fog if you're near something magnetic. Happened to me once near an old truck. The needle just stuck. Better to have a map and know the land marks too, like a big rock or a stream bend.

Seems like a lot of things need a second look these days.
