My uncle told me to ignore the hype and just buy the S&P 500 index.
After I lost a chunk of my tax refund trying to pick 'hot' stocks last year, I finally listened and put $500 into VOO. It's the only part of my portfolio that's actually up right now. Anyone else have a boring piece of advice that actually worked?

Was it my dad telling me to just set up automatic transfers? I started putting fifty bucks a month into a target date fund and stopped even looking at it, which saved me from my own bad timing. That boring auto-pilot move built more than any of my clever ideas ever did.

Right? My dumbest move was trying to time the market. Set up auto-deposit last year and it's already doing better than my "research" ever did. Just boring and steady.

That target date fund move is smart. I tried picking stocks for a year, thought I had a system. How long did it take you to actually stop checking the balance? I still open the app way too much even though I know I shouldn't.
