Dollar cost averaging into crypto during dips actually works if you pick the right coins

I've been DCAing into ETH and SOL since March. Everyone says just buy the top 10 but I noticed most of them barely move. My buddy kept buying XRP every week and he's down 22%. Meanwhile I put $50 a week into just 2 coins and I'm up 14%. Has anyone else found that picking specific coins beats just spreading it around?
