Got two quotes to ship my car from Phoenix to Seattle, picked wrong and my car sat for 12 days
So I had to move from Phoenix to Seattle for a new job back in March and I needed my car shipped. I got two quotes, one broker quoted me $850 and said pickup would happen within 3 days, the other was a smaller company that quoted $1,100 but the guy actually knew the route and told me straight up it might take 5 to 7 days for pickup. I went with the cheaper broker because who doesn't want to save $250 right? Biggest mistake. After I paid the deposit the broker stopped answering calls, the pickup date kept getting pushed back, and my car sat in my apartment lot for 12 days while I was already in Seattle renting a car at $45 a day. By the time a carrier finally grabbed it the rental costs ate up way more than the $250 I thought I was saving. The dispatcher they assigned was rude too and told me it's normal for things to take that long. I ended up paying $980 total with all the extra fees they tacked on at the end. Has anyone else dealt with a broker that lowballs the quote and then ghosts you? What did you do to get your car back?

12 days is rough but the pickup window thing is kind of normal for brokers, they're just middlemen who post your car on a load board. The honest guy who said 5 to 7 days was probably closer to how it actually works since he knew the route. The ghosting after the deposit and the extra fees at the end, that's the real scam part, not the wait itself.
