Warning: The new shop down the street is charging half my rate for brake jobs

I saw their sign go up about three months ago, advertising brake pad and rotor swaps for $199. My shop in Springfield has always charged around $400 for the same work. At first I thought they'd fold, but last week I saw six cars in their lot, all day. The cause? They're using the absolute cheapest parts you can buy online, the kind that squeal after 5,000 miles. I had a customer come to me yesterday after going there first, complaining about noise. I pulled the wheels and the pads were already worn unevenly and the rotors had surface rust spots. It's creating a cycle where people think they're saving money, but they'll be back for repairs twice as fast. How do you guys compete with shops that cut corners this badly without just slashing your own prices?

Half your rate? That's just asking for trouble down the road.

Actually, that's more like a quarter of my rate for the same job.
