Picked a Snap-on scan tool over Autel and got roasted by my crew
Last month I bought a Snap-on Zeus instead of an Autel Maxisys. Shop guys laughed at me for spending $8k when the Autel does the same for half the price. But I work on a lot of 2016-2020 GM trucks around Phoenix and the bi-directional controls just work better for me. No glitches. Has anyone else stuck with the expensive option and felt it paid off?

Autel is fine for most stuff but that Snap-on integration with the GM stuff is just cleaner. Same reason guys stick with HP Tuners even though there's cheaper options, sometimes the work flow just clicks better for what you're actually doing. Your shop guys probably haven't tried doing a DOD delete or something on a newer Silverado with both tools side by side.

Funny you mention HP Tuners because I was just reading something the other day about how some guys are switching to the new Holley stuff for the same reason. But yeah, you're spot on about the workflow thing. I remember reading a forum post from a guy who did a side by side on a 2022 Sierra 2500 with the L5P, and he said the Autel made him dig through three submenus just to find the injector trim data while the Snap-on had it right there on the main screen after a VIN scan. That kind of stuff adds up over a whole job, especially when you're trying to get a delete done and the customer is breathing down your neck. And honestly, even if the cheaper tool can do the same stuff eventually, the frustration of fighting the software makes you want to throw the thing across the shop. I'd rather pay the Snap-on tax and get it done smooth than save a few hundred bucks and waste an hour.

Man, preach. I watched my buddy try to do a DOD delete on a '21 Silverado with a knockoff Autel and it was like watching a cat do algebra. Swapped to a Snap-on and the shit just flowed, no fighting with the software every step. Yeah you pay more but when you're billing by the hour that time adds up fast. Sometimes the expensive tool is actually the cheap option lmao.
