Tried stacking 15 short exposures instead of 3 long ones for nebula shots
I was getting so much star trailing with 5-minute exposures on my Orion nebula shots. Switched to 15x 1-minute stacks last night and the detail is way cleaner with way less noise. Has anyone else found a sweet spot for exposure length vs number of frames?

I used to be the kind of guy who thought longer exposures were always better. Seemed like common sense. But trying both ways, it's hard to argue with the results you're getting. Definitely changed my mind on the whole thing.

It's funny how this whole stacking thing mirrors how I edit my photos on my phone now. I used to try one huge filter or edit on a picture and it would look fake and overdone. But stacking small adjustments, like a little contrast, a tiny bit of saturation, then a slight sharpening, gives a way better result. Same with learning to cook, small layers of seasoning beat dumping a whole jar of spice in at once. It's like the universe is telling us that doing it right usually means doing it a little at a time. Patience pays off, man.
