Serious question, I asked a local librarian for help finding a book on 19th century shipbuilding and she ended up showing me a whole digital archive I never knew existed.
I learned our town library's website has a hidden portal with free access to historical newspapers and patents, which completely changed how I research my hobby projects.

What's the portal's actual search like though?

My cousin in Ohio found old photos of our family farm from 1902 in a similar newspaper archive. She typed in our last name and the town, and it pulled up scanned pages from a local paper that shut down in the 1950s. The search was a bit slow but you could filter by year, which helped a ton. It’s wild what gets digitized and just sits there waiting for someone to look.

Honestly, I've found those library portals can be pretty clunky to search through. I still prefer just getting the physical books.
