My trowel snapped right in the middle of a dig last Tuesday
I was working on a site near Flagstaff, carefully scraping back a layer when the metal just gave way. It was a Marshalltown I've had for about 8 years, so I guess it was just worn out. I had to borrow a spare from the site supervisor to finish the unit. Has anyone found a brand that holds up better to rocky soil?

Was it the actual metal that broke or the handle? I've seen a lot of Marshalltown trowels wear down at the neck where the blade meets the tang, but the steel itself snapping is pretty rare. For rocky ground, you might want something with a thicker gauge blade, even if it means a little less flex.

Yeah @josepha32, the whole blade snapped clean off. That rocky clay is just brutal on tools.

Had a brick trowel snap the same way last season.
