My dad's comment about a broken pot changed how I look at archaeology

I was telling my dad about that 3,000 year old pot they found in Israel last month and he goes "so someone dropped a dish and now it's a big deal." That hit different because he's right but also so wrong. The pot was from around 1200 BCE and had traces of spices that rewrote what we knew about trade routes. It made me think about how everyday stuff to us becomes treasure to future archaeologists. Has anyone else had a conversation with a non-history person that made you see things differently?
