After mapping a site near Tucson with drones for a month versus old grid-and-pacing, the drone data found three times as many surface artifacts in the first week.

Has anyone else switched to aerial survey for initial site assessment and found it that much more effective?

Wish I could say the same, but my first drone survey mostly found a lot of rocks that were just rocks. Felt pretty dumb staring at the screen. The tech is clearly there though, your results are hard to argue with. I'm sticking with it, just need better luck or better eyes next time.

You did a whole drone survey and only found regular rocks? That's some seriously bad luck right there. I heard about a guy who found a fossil on his first try just scanning a creek bed. Makes you wonder what the software is even looking for sometimes. Maybe your area just had a lot of glacial till or something that looks promising but isn't. Don't feel dumb, the tech makes it look easier than it is.

My cousin's first metal detecting trip ended with a soda can collection, so you're in good company.
