Warning: I used a 5-gallon bucket of water to straighten a young maple that was leaning after a storm.

Just propped it up with a stake and filled the bucket, hanging it from a branch on the high side for about two months of counterweight. Anyone else have a weird but effective method for correcting lean without heavy gear?

My neighbor used old cinder blocks and a ratchet strap to save his pear tree.

That's some serious backyard engineering right there. My uncle once propped up a leaning shed with nothing but a truck tire and some baling wire. It's still standing, so I guess you work with what you've got. Makes you wonder what those old farmers would have done with a few ratchet straps.

My old oak needed a truck jack and some patience for a full season.
