Unpopular opinion: Leaving some deadwood up high helps nesting birds more than we think
I see crews clear every dead branch for looks, but I leave a few safe ones in the canopy. Birds use them for perches and nest spots, which is good for pest control. Just make sure they are not over paths or roofs. It adds life to the tree without real risk.

But honestly that's a huge liability waiting to happen. A dead branch can fall anytime, and saying it's 'safe' is just a guess. It risks damage to property and people, for a minor benefit that bird feeders can provide.

Come on, that's making it sound worse than it is. A dead branch can be okay for years if it's still solid, and bird feeders help local wildlife a bunch. The small chance of trouble is worth it for the good they do.

How many dead branches actually fall on people each year?
