Fixed a tricky Samsung fridge ice maker in 20 minutes flat

I was out in Elmhurst last Tuesday on a call where the customer said their ice maker hadn't made cubes in weeks. The diagnostic codes pointed to the auger motor but I checked the wiring harness first and found a pinched wire near the back panel. Repaired it with a quick splice and the thing started filling trays right away. Has anyone else run into those cheap plastic harnesses shorting out on Samsung models?

Maybe I'm just old school but a pinched wire that magically solves everything after weeks of no ice sounds a little too clean. Those Samsung harnesses are garbage for sure, but usually when the auger motor code pops up there's more going on than just a bad connection. I'd give it a few days before calling it fixed. Could just be the tray finally got cold enough to kick on after you bumped something around.

Hey, am I the only one who's been "lucky" enough (if you can call it that) to fix a Samsung ice maker by basically just wiggling the right wire? It sounds way too easy, like I'm some kind of appliance whisperer or something. I totally get josephmartin's skepticism though, my track record with "quick fixes" is honestly pretty embarrassing (I once "fixed" a dishwasher by accidentally kicking it, and it worked for like three whole days before dying again). That pinched wire trick can work if you hit it just right, but yeah, I'd probably be holding my breath for a few days too before celebrating. Samsung really knows how to make those cheap plastic harnesses feel like they were designed by someone who hates repair guys (or maybe just loves watching us sweat).

@grace89 you're not alone on that one, I've fixed more stuff by jiggling wires than I'd like to admit, it's just part of the deal with cheap connectors. That dishwasher kick story is pretty relatable too, sometimes desperation pays off.
