Warning: I rewatched all of Yu Yu Hakusho in 3 weeks and the Dark Tournament hits different at 32 than it did at 14
So back in January I decided to rewatch Yu Yu Hakusho for the first time since middle school. I knocked out all 112 episodes in about 21 days, which is way faster than my first run when I was 14 and just watched whatever came on Toonami. The thing that got me was the Dark Tournament arc. As a kid I thought it was just cool fights, but at 32 I kept noticing how much of it is about Yusuke stalling for time while his friends get wrecked for him. I even pulled up the episode where he fights Younger Toguro and sat there for like 20 minutes afterward just thinking about it. Has anyone else gone back to a show from their childhood and found that the part you loved as a kid now feels like the saddest part of the whole thing?

Totally used to think Toguro was just a cool villain, now he just makes me sad.
