I always watched anime subbed, but a dub changed my mind
For the longest time, I was a strict subtitle-only person. I thought dubs were always worse, with bad acting that ruined the feel. Then my friend made me watch the English dub of 'Cowboy Bebop' with him. I gave in after he said, 'Just try the first episode, you can go back.' The voice acting was actually really good, and I could focus on the amazing animation instead of reading text. It felt totally different, more relaxed. I still watch most stuff subbed, but now I check if a show has a good dub first. Has anyone else had a specific show where the dub won you over?

Cowboy Bebop's dub is a classic gateway. The casting just fits the vibe perfectly. It's a good example of when to make an exception.

What dub even comes close? @masongonzalez nailed it about the voices matching the look, that's the whole magic. I still get chills during the final scene because of that perfect delivery.

Steve Blum's voice as Spike is just perfect, it gives the character this cool, tired feeling that the Japanese version doesn't have for me. @wendysanchez is totally right about the casting, especially Beau Billingslea as Jet. You can hear the years of history in his voice. I watched the dub first and now the sub feels wrong, the voices don't match the look of the characters at all. It's one of the few shows where I'll fight people on this, the English version is the real one. What other dubs do you think get close to that level?
