Can we talk about how long it takes to figure out a filler arc order that doesn't wreck the pacing?
So I finally sat down to rewatch a long shonen series with my cousin who is brand new to it, and I decided to skip the filler so she would not get bored. Sounds easy, right? Wrong. It took me almost four hours over two nights just to build a watch order that made sense, because every list I found online disagreed about which episodes were safe to cut. Some guides said skip episodes 60 through 75, another one said keep episode 68 because it has one canon line that gets called back much later, and a third list had a whole different numbering because of a season split. I ended up cross checking three wikis and a Reddit thread from 2019, and I still guessed wrong on two episodes that turned out to matter in the next arc. My cousin noticed a character she had never met acting like an old friend, and I had to pause and explain a whole backstory that I had accidentally cut. So if you are making a skip list for a friend, where do you draw the line between saving their time and losing the small stuff that pays off later?
The "keep episode 68 because it has one canon line" thing is exactly what got me too! What finally worked for me was making a two tier list: must watch episodes that push the main story, and maybe watch episodes that only have small moments. For the maybe ones, I just watched them at 1.5 speed or read a quick summary before moving on. That way my friend got the callbacks without sitting through 20 minutes of nonsense. I also stopped trusting random lists and just checked the manga chapters each episode covered, since that never lies. Took way less time than four hours once I figured that out.
