Appreciation post: That one scene in Cowboy Bebop that hit different at 2am

Was driving through Nevada last Tuesday, pulled over at a rest stop around 2am. Put on Cowboy Bebop episode 18, that scene with Spike and the piano. Anyone else have an anime moment that just clicked at a weird hour?

Bro i read that the director actually based that whole scene on a real life experience he had driving through the desert at like 4 in the morning. Something about how the quiet just hits you different when youre the only one awake on the road. That piano track combined with Spike staring out the window is pure gold. Makes you think about all the choices you made that led you to that exact moment in your life. Perfect 2am vibes honestly.

Oh I have to disagree a bit there. That scene always felt more staged than real to me, like the director was trying too hard to make the silence profound. I've done enough late night drives to know the quiet can be peaceful but it doesn't usually trigger some deep life reflection like that. The piano is nice but the whole thing comes off as a little too polished for a moment that's supposed to feel spontaneous.
