Why does nobody talk about noting trip smells in a pocket journal?

I write down scents like pine forests or bakery aromas each evening. It makes the trip stick in my mind for years.

Okay but like, why make it a whole thing? Writing down every smell from a trip seems kinda extra. Pine forests and bakeries are cool, but do you really need a journal for that? Memories stick anyway if the trip was good. This just feels like turning fun into homework. Idk, maybe I'm missing the point.

A journal for smells? What's the point, are you gonna quiz yourself later? Seems like a sure way to ruin a good memory.
