I finally took that old guy's advice about hand saws

There's this retired carpenter named Hank who lives down the street from me in Portland. He told me last fall to stop using my circular saw for every little cut and learn to use a proper hand saw for trim work. I figured he was just being old school and stubborn, so I ignored him for like 3 months. Then I messed up a piece of oak baseboard with the power saw and had to start over. I finally borrowed his old Disston saw and tried it on some pine scraps. The cut was cleaner and I didn't have to deal with extension cords or dust. Has anyone else had a similar experience where an old timer's method turned out to beat the power tool version?

Makes you wonder how many shortcuts we take just because they're fast, not because they're better. The quiet tools always sneak up on you like that.

Fast tools win every time when the end result is the same.

Wait, "the end result is the same"? That can't be right.
