Had a panel battery backup fail during a storm last week

We got hit with a nasty thunderstorm Tuesday night and I got a call from a customer at 3am saying their system was beeping. Got out there and found the backup battery had swollen up and cracked the case. The terminals were corroded pretty bad too. I swapped in a new sealed lead acid battery and cleaned up the connections, then explained to them these need checking every 2-3 years. Anyone else seeing more of these battery failures in humid basements?

Disagree completely these things last way longer than that.

Three years? That swollen battery had to be twice that old.
