That fancy $800 borescope I laughed at... now I can't live without it
I used to watch guys pull out these expensive scopes and think they were just showing off. Then I spent 4 hours chasing an oil leak on a 737 in Phoenix because I couldn't see behind a duct. Borrowed a Snap-On scope from the lead and found the crack in 5 minutes. Anyone else eat crow on a tool they swore was unnecessary?

Borrowed a Snap-On scope from the lead and found the crack in 5 minutes" - yeah that's how they getcha, make you feel like a genius for five minutes and then you're out $800.

Tbh @adamk95 you nailed it. These tool companies know exactly what they're doing. They sell you on the quick win and then lock you into a payment plan that outlasts the truck. It's like when you buy a new phone to fix one issue and suddenly you're paying for a case, a charger, and extra storage you didn't need. Everything's designed to hook you on the short-term fix and then drain you long-term. Snap-On just dresses that up with a nice box and a lifetime warranty you'll never use.

The real trick is these companies bank on you feeling like the tool itself fixed the problem instead of your skill, which is why @adamk95's five minutes of genius costs eight hundred bucks. Nobody talks about how the warranty is a joke because you either lose the receipt or the replacement process takes so long you just buy another one anyway. Idk maybe it's just me but the whole model is built on making you feel inadequate with basic tools so you keep upgrading to stuff you barely need.
