Rant: That cold hangar story from a Delta guy in Atlanta got me thinking

Heard a mechanic say he skipped a mandatory AD check on a 737 because the paperwork was 'close enough' from last month. Told me the inspector would never catch it. Has anyone else seen corners cut like that on line maintenance?

Bet on it. Seen a guy sign off a brake job without actually looking at the pads cause he said it was 'obviously fine' and he had a flight to catch. FAA loves that kind of close enough logic.

Oh man, that's the kind of story that makes me double-check my own work even when I'm pretty sure it's fine. Guess we've all cut a corner or two, but brakes feel like one of those things where being wrong means you're not around to regret it. So yeah, I'll own up to being a little paranoid about that stuff just to make sure my name isn't part of the next "learning experience.

Double-checking my own work" hits a little too close to home... I once spent an hour trying to figure out why my car was wobbling, just to realize I left a lug nut sitting on the driveway.

Feel you on this one, it's scary how often people shrug off critical stuff like that. I've seen guys skip torque specs on landing gear because the wrench was 'close enough' and they didn't want to walk back to the toolbox. Makes you wonder how many incidents start with a lazy afternoon and a bad attitude. Glad you're the type to double check things, keeps the rest of us safer.
