Crafting aluminum cowlings for scale models has me stuck on the rivet details
I've been working on making aluminum cowlings for my 1:24 scale warbird models (it's a side project to unwind after shifts). The problem is getting the rivet patterns to look authentic without warping the thin metal. I tried using a punch set, but the alignment is always off by a millimeter or two. Has anyone found a reliable method for this? Maybe a jig or template system? I'd love to hear how others handle small-scale metalwork. This is driving me nuts, but I'm determined to get it right.

That's the worst part of any detailed hobby, tbh.

Your 1:24 scale needs that much precision?

Totally get where you're coming from, but for me that precision is the whole point (it's weirdly satisfying when it all lines up). Feels like the difference between a toy and a real model.
