My old voice assistant just gave up on me last night

It was the one from like 2018, and it couldn't understand a simple command to turn off the kitchen lights. Had to dig out the old manual switch. Makes you realize how far the speech recognition has come in just a few years. Anyone still using one of those older models?

Oh man, I feel that. My old one used to turn on the living room fan every single time I asked for the weather. It got to the point where I'd just yell "WEATHER REPORT" and then walk over to turn the fan off. The new ones aren't perfect, but at least they usually get the room right. It's wild how much better they've gotten at picking out words from background noise.

Mine still gets it wrong half the time. I asked mine to set a timer for pasta yesterday and it started reading me a news story about a bakery in Nebraska. I'm starting to think the problem is my voice, not the tech. I've just accepted that my house will occasionally do random, unhelpful things.

Consider how often it mishears you. My friend's assistant keeps adding "pickles" to her shopping list because it mishears her kid's name, which is nothing like pickles. Maybe the tech just gets stuck on certain sounds.
