Strumming my old guitar each evening has become a necessary release from work stress.

After a hectic day at the office, I make it a point to spend thirty minutes with my guitar. The physical act of playing chords and melodies allows me to process emotions without words. I've noticed a significant drop in my tension headaches since starting this practice. What hobbies do you turn to for emotional decompression?

Found that dedicating time to learn fingerpicking techniques transformed my evening sessions into a meditative ritual. The repetitive motions and concentration required pushed all other thoughts from my mind, which was a relief after hours of mental clutter. I also gravitate towards minor keys, as rubyshah mentioned, because they validate my mood without demanding false cheerfulness. Over time, this practice hasn't just eased tension headaches but improved my sleep quality too.

I mean idk if it's the same for everyone, but I find playing in minor keys actually helps more with stress than happy chords. Maybe it's just me but there's something about the melancholy that really pulls the tension out.

Guess my stress relief comes from minor keys since my happy chords sound painfully forced (like my optimism).

Three years of piano and I actually get more out of major keys for stress. Minor keys tend to make me sit in the sad feeling longer, almost like I'm practicing being upset. But playing something in C major with simple chord progressions forces my brain to focus on the brightness and I can feel my shoulders drop after a few minutes. Do you ever mix in some upbeat fingerpicking patterns when the melancholy starts to feel heavy?
