My indie band got booked for a kid's birthday party by mistake

We showed up to the venue and saw balloons and a cake. Our post-punk sound did not fit the vibe at all. Ever had a gig that was completely out of place?

Heard my friend's metal band played a library event, like @victorw43's smart crowd work.

Totally! Reading the room is everything. A friend's punk band once played a backyard family party. They opened with a super soft cover of a pop song to feel it out. Then they slowly turned up the energy based on how people reacted. Ended up with the kids loving it and the parents not freaking out. Smart bands adjust on the fly like that.

Yikes, that sounds awkward! We once played a wedding and switched to acoustic covers to fit the vibe.

Smart move honestly. Gotta read the room at weddings, especially if grandma's in the front row. Swapping to acoustic is just good crowd work.
