PSA: A hidden Wyoming spot changed my view on camping
I believed camping was too much hassle. A buddy told me about a quiet campground in the Wyoming backcountry with clean facilities and amazing sunsets. We went last fall, and it was so peaceful with hardly any other people. Now I always search for these kinds of hidden places when planning trips.

Look for free camping on public land maps... it takes more work but is worth it. You can often find quiet spots away from the main campgrounds. I've discovered some amazing places that way.

Putting in the time to scout those maps leads to camping that feels truly remote. I've stumbled upon sites that aren't even marked, just clearings where the wildlife outnumbers the people. Those are the nights that remind you why you bother leaving the driveway.

Totally get that. Those crowded main spots ruin the vibe. I’ll drive an extra hour on a forest road to find a pull-off by a creek. Once found a place near the Wind Rivers where the only sound was a river and some elk. Woke up to a herd of pronghorn moving through the meadow. That’s the real stuff, not some packed lot with generators all night.
