Looking back, my neon phase was a mistake.
I was sure bright colors were the only way to get noticed. After seeing how soft tones can create feeling, I changed my tune. What design choice from your past do you regret?

Xena's right but loud colors aren't all bad.

My first apartment had one lime green accent wall in the living room... I thought it was so cool and modern. It just felt aggressive to wake up to every morning, especially with that cheap overhead light hitting it. Took me two years to finally paint it a calm, warm gray. The whole room just instantly felt like I could breathe again.

Why do we pick such loud colors for rooms where we actually have to live? That lime green wall sounds like it went from trendy to mean real fast, just beating you up every morning. We get this idea that bold means interesting, but it often just makes a room hard to be in. Lighting is a huge part of it too, like how that cheap overhead can turn any color into something harsh. I learned the hard way that a color you love on a swatch can feel totally different on your own walls all day. Switching to something soft like gray isn't just changing paint, it's choosing to be kind to yourself in your own home.
