Update: I saw a crew in Denver using the wrong tape for a storefront install

They were using standard duct tape on the glass edges before setting it, which can leave a sticky mess and doesn't hold the weight right. I've always used the heavy-duty blue painter's tape for that job because it peels clean and grips better. What's your go-to method for holding glass in place before the setting blocks go in?

Oh man, that reminds me of a buddy's nightmare job last year. His crew subcontracted some guys who used that cheap masking tape, the kind that turns to dust. They got the big pane up, went to lunch, and came back to the sound of glass hitting the sidewalk. Total write-off. Ever since, he's sworn by that thick, cloth-backed tape for the initial hold. Says it's the only thing that doesn't stretch or give way when you're making those tiny adjustments.

Totally get that, we lost a door panel the same way.

Cloth tape is a game changer for sure. We switched to the 2-inch wide stuff after a panel slipped on us. That extra grip makes all the difference when you're trying to line things up before the final fix. Never trust the thin blue tape for anything heavy.
