Back then, window work meant mastering putty application.

I started in this trade when putty was the go-to for sealing windows. It took patience and a steady hand to apply it right. These days, we mostly use silicone sealants that set fast and clean. I remember spending hours smoothing putty only to see it crack in the frost. Now, jobs are done in half the time with fewer callbacks. Part of me misses the artistry of the old way, but you can't argue with better results.

God, the old way was such a mess sometimes. Glad we can skip that now.

Putty training was brutal... silicone's a dream.

Actually, that shift from putty to silicone was a total game changer on the job site. Sure, the old way had its own kind of craft to it, but the new stuff just works better for the people living in the house. You stop getting those angry calls every winter about drafts and cracks. It might feel less like an art project now, but a solid seal that lasts for years is the real art in my book. The time saved lets you do more jobs right, not just one job slow.
