Color mix turned muddy on my recent piece

I mixed cobalt and amber glass, but it came out brown instead of vibrant. (I was hoping for a deep purple, to be honest.) What's your go-to method for keeping colors from getting muddy when blending?

Cobalt and amber will always go brown.

Watched my friend mix those, ruined a whole painting.

Ruined the entire painting? That's so disappointing!

Disagree completely with the idea that cobalt and amber always go brown. I've mixed them myself and gotten a RICH, deep purple with the right ratios. Try using more cobalt and just a hint of amber, it changes EVERYTHING. Equal parts make mud, but controlled mixes can be vibrant. I saw a friend create this beautiful twilight sky, not brown at all. It's about technique, not blaming the colors.
