I used to think all the gray stuff in my yard was just plain dirt until a guy at the hardware store in Tacoma pointed out the quartz veins in it.
Now I can't stop seeing little bits of geology everywhere, like even in the gravel on my driveway, and it's kind of wild, so has anyone else had a moment where something totally ordinary suddenly looked completely different?

Totally get that, it's like a switch flips. I used to see concrete as just a boring slab, but after a friend pointed out the different sized rocks in the mix, I started noticing the aggregate everywhere. Now I spot little flecks of granite in sidewalks and it makes the whole city feel different, like it's built from puzzle pieces. Kinda ruins plain gray concrete for me now, lmao.

Hold up, you can actually see individual rocks in the mix? I always thought that stuff was just...powdered rock or something. Now I'm gonna be staring at the ground like a weirdo trying to spot the granite flecks @torres.grant mentioned. That's a wild little detail to ruin all the boring slabs for you.

Oh man, same thing happened to me! A buddy showed me the rebar patterns @leodavis talked about, and now I can't unsee the skeleton inside every wall. It really does change how you look at everything.

Wait until you start noticing the different types of rebar patterns in poured walls, it's a whole other layer.
