My quiet dinner party turned into a crowd scene because of one person

I invited a few close friends over for a simple dinner last Friday. One friend decided to bring three coworkers along without telling me. It completely changed the evening from intimate to chaotic. We ran out of chairs and I had to scramble for more food. I believe inviting extra people to a small gathering is disrespectful. Now I tell everyone to confirm their guests before coming over. It keeps things calm and avoids last minute stress.
