Serious question, foundry slag dumped in a lot near our shop
Last week, I saw our team put foundry slag in an empty lot. Others say it saves money, but I feel it is wrong and hurts the land. What do you do when bosses want to cut corners on waste?

Ugh, I dealt with this at my last job with used solvent! They wanted to pour it out back to save on disposal costs. I quietly took pictures first, because notes get "lost." Then I went straight to the shift lead, not my direct boss, and said it was a huge fines waiting to happen. They grumbled but got a proper dumpster the next week. Sometimes you gotta show them the money it'll cost to be dirty.

Going around your direct boss seems like a real good way to get labeled a problem, even if you're right. I mean, photos can help but that feels like starting a war instead of just fixing the issue. Maybe it's just me but most places I've seen would rather handle it quietly inside the chain of command first. Idk, that move could burn bridges hard if the shift lead and your boss talk.

At my last job in a printing plant, the manager kept ignoring frayed electrical cords. I snapped pics and emailed the safety director directly. My boss found out and made my life hell for months, cutting my hours over 'attitude.' That bridge was torched, and I ended up quitting. Ivant51 is right, sometimes you win the battle but lose the war.
