My walk got weird when I thought a yard statue was real
I was cutting through the back streets on my afternoon walk. Saw this thing that looked like a hurt bird near a garden hose. My heart jumped, so I walked right up to it. Turned out to be one of those metal heron decorations people put out. The lady who lives there came out her front door and stared at me. I had to tell her I thought her lawn art was in trouble. We both kind of laughed, but it was super awkward. Just a heads up, check twice before you freak out over something on your stroll.

Yard statue mix-ups show how often we misread small things.

Ugh, yes! I swear I do that with garden gnomes all the time.

That line about misreading small things is interesting. It makes me wonder if we're actually seeing things too well, you know? Our brains are built to spot life, especially something hurt or out of place, in a split second. The problem isn't our eyes, it's that the world is now full of fake things designed to look real from a distance. Our old wiring doesn't know what to do with a metal heron next to a real garden hose.
