Had a plank snap on a glue-down job last Friday

Was installing some 7-inch engineered oak in a Phoenix condo. Middle of a row, just a normal cut. Heard a crack and the piece split clean across the grain. Had to pull up three boards to replace it, wasted about 45 minutes. Do you guys think this is a material defect or could my saw blade be getting dull?

Yeah, that snap sound is the worst.

Used to think it was no big deal until my dog got scared by it one time. Now I flinch every single time I hear that sound. It's like my brain rewired itself after seeing how jumpy he got. Honestly makes me wonder what it does to our own nerves over time. That sharp noise just hits different now.

That's actually a pop of air breaking the sound barrier, not a snap. The crack comes from the tip moving faster than sound. I looked it up after my neighbor's kid got one and it bugged me. It's a tiny sonic boom, which explains why it feels so sharp and sudden. Our brains are wired to react to that kind of noise as a threat. Your dog's reaction makes total sense.
