A homeowner in Denver told me 'just put it over the old tile' to save time.
Had to explain the whole floor would fail in a year without proper prep. Anyone else get clients trying to skip the most basic steps?

Honestly it's wild how often that happens. They see the surface and think that's all that matters, but the prep work is the whole foundation. Tbh you end up being the bad guy for telling them the truth, but it's worse to let them waste their money. I've had to walk away from jobs because they insisted on cutting corners I knew would fail. It's just not worth the call back or the ruined reputation.

Man, I've been the bad guy so many times my business card should just say "fun ruiner.

My last client wanted to skip the primer on a whole house paint job (like vera514 said, cutting corners). I told them it would peel in a year, and suddenly I'm the villain for not wanting to do a bad job. My business card draft literally says "Professional Buzzkill" now.
