Blew a $25 blender motor blending frozen fruit for smoothies

Picked up a cheap Hamilton Beach blender from Walmart about 2 months ago. Tried to make a frozen mango smoothie this morning and it smoked out the kitchen after 10 seconds. The motor just seized up. Is there any hope fixing these cheap motors or should I just toss it in the recycle bin and spring for a better one? Has anyone had luck swapping out a blender motor on a budget model?

theagibson you're missing that frozen fruit can also crack the blender jar before the motor even burns out.

You tried blending frozen fruit in a $25 blender? Those little motors aren't built for that kind of load. Frozen stuff needs a motor with at least 700 watts or a good gear system to handle the torque. You're better off tossing it and getting a mid-range model like a Ninja or something in the $60 range. Cheap blenders are basically disposable when the motor burns out.

Yeah, "basically disposable" is exactly right. My buddy thought he was saving money with a cheap one too, threw some frozen mango in there and the whole thing started smoking after like 10 seconds. Had to unplug it and toss it that same day.
