My coffee maker flooded the kitchen counter this morning
I was in my apartment in Denver, trying to get the machine going before work, and the whole carafe just overflowed for no clear reason. I grabbed a bunch of dish towels, mopped it up, and found the tiny valve on the water tank was clogged with old scale. Has anyone else fixed a similar drip issue without taking the whole thing apart?

Same thing happened to my machine last month, just cleaned that valve with vinegar.

Vinegar works for some mineral deposits, but it can damage rubber seals over time. A citric acid powder made for appliances is a safer choice for that valve. It dissolves the limescale without harming the parts.

Actually, citric acid can also be a problem for some rubbers over long soaks. For that specific inlet valve, the safest bet is usually just taking it apart to wipe it clean. That way you avoid any chemical risk to the seals.
