Warning: I just lost a whole morning to a bad batch of hydraulic fluid
Got a call for a slow car in a 5-story office building downtown. Spent about three hours checking the pump, the valve, the whole system. Everything looked fine, but the lift was just dragging. Finally, on a hunch, I pulled a sample of the fluid. It was way too thick, almost like syrup. Turns out the building manager had some 'leftover' fluid from another job and topped it off himself. That wrong fluid cost me half a day's labor, which is about $400 out of my pocket for that call. Now I have to flush the whole system. Has anyone else run into this with off-brand or mixed fluids causing major headaches?

Reminds me of a guy who mixed brake fluids.

Wait, the building manager just used random leftover fluid? That's wild.

That leftover fluid could have been anything from old cleaning chemicals to actual industrial waste. I saw a report last year where a janitor in a Florida office mixed two random cleaners and it created a toxic gas. @faith_thomas, the real issue is that most building managers aren't trained to handle or dispose of that stuff right. They just see a bottle and think it's all the same. It's not just wild, it's a legit health code violation waiting to happen.
