Been using the wrong size feeler gauge on door gap checks for months

A senior tech at the union hall pointed out my 0.040" gauge was for freight doors, not passenger cabs... I was checking a KONE unit downtown and the readings were always off. What's your go-to gauge for standard passenger door adjustments?

Man I was in the same boat for a while. I used to grab whatever gauge was closest in my bag, but getting called out on a job site for using a 0.035 on a standard passenger door was a real wake up call. Now my go-to is a 0.025 for the side gaps, it just seems to hit right for most of the common cabs I work on. I keep a 0.040 in a totally different pocket so I don't mix them up again. That little bit of difference really throws everything off if you use the wrong one.

Color-coded pouches saved my sanity.

Oh man, that hits home. I was helping my buddy with his truck door and just grabbed a gauge from his toolbox, didn't even look. It was way too thick, like a 0.040 or something. We spent an hour trying to figure out why the window was binding before we checked. Felt so dumb. Now I make a point to actually read the numbers on the side, even if I'm in a hurry.
