Vent: A client's kid asked me why I fix things instead of just buying new ones
I was swapping a cracked screen on a tablet yesterday, and the little boy watching me said, 'My dad says it's cheaper to get a new one.' I told him his tablet would be fine in 30 minutes. He looked at his dad and said, 'But this one knows my games.' That simple line hit me hard. It's not just about the money, it's about the stuff we already know and love. How do you guys explain the real value of repair to people who don't get it?

Feel that kid's comment deep down.

Man, that kid gets it. It's about the history in the thing, not just the price tag. Some stuff you just can't buy new.

Hold up, is the history actually in the thing or are we just putting it there? A used jacket is just a used jacket until someone tells you a story about it. Feels like we're paying extra for a vibe.
