I was dead wrong about those cheap no-name thermal pastes
For years I only used Arctic Silver or Noctua pastes on client machines. Tried a $4 tube of GD900 from Amazon on a friend's old gaming PC last week. The temps dropped 3 degrees more than my usual stuff. Has anyone else had good luck with the cheap stuff or did I just get lucky?

You were dead wrong" is a bit dramatic for thermal paste don't you think. But yeah I've been using GD900 for a couple years now and it's fine. It's just silicon dioxide and zinc oxide, same stuff as the expensive brands, just without the fancy marketing and the $15 price tag. The only downside is the tube feels like it was made in a basement but the results speak for themselves.

Ha! @ivanross nailed it. That "basement tube" description is too real, same experience here.

Huh. Fair enough, @ivanross. Cheap thermal paste is still just thermal paste.
