I finally stopped skipping the anti-static strap

I used to avoid using an anti-static strap for quick fixes to move faster. After zapping a good board, I now hook it up every time, but some repair guys say it's a waste for older electronics. Do you always use static protection, or do you think it depends on the device?

Yeah, and it's that exact "it probably won't happen" logic that gets people everywhere. You see it with not backing up files, skipping safety glasses for a quick cut, or not wearing a seatbelt for a short drive. The hassle feels bigger than the invisible risk, right up until the cost hits. I'd rather look a bit over-cautious than silently fry a component and waste an hour troubleshooting a problem I created.

Ever skip the anti-static strap because you're just moving a RAM stick? I did that once and watched a status LED go dark for good. Now I clip the strap to something metal every time, no exceptions. It's cheaper than explaining to a client why their unit needs a new control board.

Idk, I've moved RAM without the strap before and never had any issues.
