The transformer delay that nearly sunk my biggest job last year

Last year, I handled a commercial job needing a special 75kVA transformer. The vendor promised delivery in a month, so I scheduled around it. Delays hit when they said it was stuck in port. My crew sat idle for over a month, angering the general contractor. We missed out on other work because of the hold. After two and a half months total, it arrived damaged, requiring more delays. Now I get lead times in writing and line up backups. Don't get trapped like I did.

Tough spot, but that's on your scheduling.

Explain what you mean by that.

Actually think you might have the wrong idea here. The schedule was set months ago and approved by everyone. The tough spot came from a last minute change nobody could have predicted. It's not really about planning, more about bad luck hitting at the worst time.
