Grabbed a vintage reading lamp from a dumpster behind a law office yesterday
I was walking my dog past this office building and saw a busted desk chair sticking out, but underneath was this old brass lamp with a green glass shade. Cleaned it up with some vinegar and it works perfectly, even has the original pull chain. Has anyone else found old lamps or lights that just needed a little cleaning to look brand new?
Oh man, did you accidentally stumble into a career as a dumpster archaeologist? Because that sounds way better than anything I've ever found in one, which is mostly just regret and a broken flip flop. I found an old banker's lamp at a yard sale once, the kind with the brass gooseneck, and it looked like it had been through a war. A little elbow grease and some new felt on the base and it's been on my desk for five years, no joke. I think the best finds are the ones that just look dead but have all the good parts still inside.
Ha, yeah that ketchup trick is wild! @burns.jenny I've heard of people using it for cleaning copper pans too, but now I'm wondering if I should try it on the old brass lamp I picked up at an estate sale last summer. I mean, it's not as fancy as that banker's lamp you found, but it's got this cool vintage vibe if I can ever get the tarnish off.
