Sanding overhead joints used to wreck my shoulders... until I tried this.

I started using a pole sander with a swivel head for ceiling work. It lets me apply even pressure without straining my back... it helped a lot. Still gets dusty, but way less painful. How do you guys handle high sanding?

Yeah my buddy tried a pole sander after he messed up his shoulder drywalling. He got so into it he ended up sanding a huge patch in his ceiling way too smooth, like glass smooth, right next to a rougher area. Had to go back and rough it up again to match, totally defeated the purpose. He said his neck was killing him from looking up at his mistake for so long.

Yeah, that "huge patch" thing is the real danger. What I do now is keep two sandpapers on hand, a rougher one and a finer one. I use the rougher paper to knock down the high spots first across the whole area, then switch to the finer one for a quick pass to even it out. It keeps you from going too deep in one spot and having to fix it.
