Journeyman's offhand remark about my weld cleanup changed my setup

Last week a master pipefitter in Baton Rouge watched me chase a bead with a grinder and said 'you're polishing it, not sealing it.' I stopped fighting the mill scale and switched to a flap disc at 3 passes max. Anyone else get a redirect from one casual line like that?

Tried that exact method last weekend and it held up way better than I expected. Kept it simple, let it sit, no fuss. Less really is more with that stuff.
